Easter Opening

Dear Parents/Carers

In accordance with government requests for schools to remain open during the Easter period, I can confirm that Glebelands will be open during the weeks beginning Monday 6th April and Monday 13th April. Childcare will continue to be provided for children of Key Workers and those with an Education Health Care Plan.

Home learning plans

Dear parents/Carers

I would like to thank you all for your patience and consideration while we put new measures in place. I realise many of you were frustrated at not being able to get hold of learning packs for your children, however given the escalation in risk, coupled with instruction from the government to make only necessary outdoor trips, we made the decision to limit access to the school premises.

Teachers have been working to develop structured lesson plans with clear links to online learning platforms. Hopefully these will be fairly intuitive for you to use and provide your children with ample scope for them to explore subjects which they are keen to engage with and allow for more structured timetabling. Please get in touch with your child's teacher through Class Dojo should you require additional guidance.

I appreciate that home-schooling brings its own challenges. Please try not to worry about getting things right, the main focus is to occupy and stimulate the children and keep 'ticking over' so that they do not lose what they have already attained. I realise that parents are juggling work and other responsibilities and have a lot to think about at present. The work being made available for the children is meant to offer you a degree of support.

Prime Minister's latest measures to combat Covid-19

Dear Parents/Carers,

I would like to thank you for your patience and support while we transition into new ways of working. Your collective effort has helped to make the process as smooth as it can be.

In light of the of the Prime Minister’s latest address to the nation, from tomorrow (Tuesday 23rd) we would request that if one responsible adult is able to remain at home throughout the day, then you DO NOT send your child to school. This includes children of Key Workers and children with an EHCP. I realise that this may cause some inconvenience, however given the growing seriousness of the current situation, an increase in response is necessary.

Unfortunately, given the increased level of restriction, learning packs will no longer be available for collection from outside of the school. This is not a decision which has been taken lightly, but one which we hope will assist in keeping our community safe. We will however ensure that all resources continue to be placed on your child’s class page.

I would like to take this opportunity to offer my thanks and appreciation to all of our parents who are working in front line services and helping to keep the country going.

Arrangements for children of Key Workers and EHCP

Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you for the information you have provided us about Key Worker Status. We have reviewed all of the applications in line with government guidance. If you qualify as a key worker, as per government instructions, you should have been contacted today to confirm arrangements for the coming weeks.

If you have not yet received a phone call and feel that you are a key worker, and entitled to a school place as outlined in government guidance, please email the school office at office@glebelands.leicester.sch.uk

For those children who will be attending school, the following will apply;

The school day will commence at 8:45am and finish at 3:05pm.
Please go to your child’s usual Key Stage door entrance in the mornings and collect from the same door at the end of the day.
Parents will not be allowed inside the school building. Should you wish to speak with a member of staff, please contact the school office by phone or email.
It will not be necessary to wear school uniform.
We plan to keep each Key Stage separate from one another as much as possible.
Please ensure your child brings a packed lunch and their own drinks bottle. If your child is in receipt of INCOME BASED free school meals, a packed lunch will be provided.
A timetable will be followed which will allow for a range of childcare activities. Staff are currently preparing learning packs for all children whether at school or at home. Arrangements for collection of these packs will be advised on Monday.

I would appreciate your patience, flexibility and understanding whilst we implement this new arrangement. These are challenging times for all and we are all doing our best!

Pupils eligible to attend

As you are aware, Glebelands will be open next week for children who have an Education Health Care Plan or for those whose parents are deemed to be Key Workers . For the latter an email was sent earlier to those parents with parental responsibility, seeking details of their employment status and profession.

Unfortunately schools have not yet received confirmation for the classification of Key Workers. We are anticipating that this information will be released before the end of the day. If you have not yet returned your employment information, please do so as soon as possible. This will allow us to plan and prepare for children who will be in school next week.

For clarification, schools are being asked to care for children only if both parents are key workers, unless the residential parent is the key worker and the other parent does not live locally.

Please remember that schools have been closed in order to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus and allow key workers to keep us safe and keep the country running.

A number of parents who have children on the SEND register have requested that their child attends school next week but do not come under either category. Unfortunately we are unable to provide a place for these children.

Parents of children with EHCP plans will be contacted on Friday 20th to confirm if you are intending to send your child to school.

We have not yet made a decision on the start and end times of the school day as we are still waiting for information from other parties. We are also waiting for information from Leicester Traded Services about lunchtime provision.

I hope to be able to provide you with further information as soon as possible.

Key workers and vulnerable children

As a result of the Government Briefing on Wednesday 18th March, our school will be open from Monday 23 March to provide care for children of Key Workers and those who have an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP).

We are still awaiting guidance on what the definition or classification of a Key Worker will be. As soon as we know more, instructions will be sent to parents on how to contact school to arrange for care.

Children who are in receipt of Free School Meals will be provided with a meal or a meal voucher. Plans for the organisation of this are currently being discussed with our school meal provider.

FSM scammers

We are receiving reports that scammers are asking families who are in receipt of free school meals for their bank details in order to receive money. You will not be contacted by any official agency or provider of FSM asking for your bank details so please be vigilant.

School update - Continued closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

Due to ongoing staffing shortages, the school will remain closed on Thursday 19^th, Friday 20^th and Monday 23^rd March, with a view to reopening on Tuesday 24^th March.

For the safety of pupils and staff, we have had to make this very difficult decision. We have taken advice from the Local Authority and the Governing Body who support the school’s decision to remain closed until Tuesday 24^th March.

Please continue to check the website for updates as the situation may change based on national and Local Authority advice.

I have requested that teachers continue to update and refresh their class pages so that children can access learning at home.

A decision will be made on Monday 23^rd March as to whether or not school will re-open on the 24^th March.

School Update - Coronavirus

Dear Parents / Carers

I made the decision to close the school today due to an increased number of staff reporting feeling unwell and who deemed their condition necessary to self-isolate. Several members of staff also have children who have been feeling unwell and have followed the same government guidance. As a result I will be closing the school on Wednesday 18^th March in order that a deep clean of the premises can be undertaken. This should result in the school re-opening on Thursday 19^th March, subject to staffing levels.

At Glebelands Primary School we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously. I therefore feel it would be beneficial to update you with the latest guidance from Public Health England. Their advice states,

Anyone with a fever or persistent cough should stay at home for 7 days if they live alone or 14 days if they live with others. Anyone who lives with someone displaying Coronavirus symptoms should also stay at home for 14 days
Everyone should stop non-essential contact with others. This is particularly important for people over 70, those with underlying health conditions and pregnant women
People should work from home when they can
People should avoid places like pubs, clubs and theatres
People should stop all unnecessary travel
By the weekend of the 21^st March, those with the most serious health conditions should be largely shielded from social contact for 12 weeks

There is currently no blanket decision to close UK schools, however the above advice may have an impact on staffing levels. The decision to close the school due to availability of staff will never be taken lightly; our priority remains ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, pupils, parents and visitors to the site. If however the situation becomes unsafe as result of staff absence, school will have to close. If a decision to close is made, we will notify you via text or email and on our website.

Attendance

Where a pupil is in self-isolation, in accordance with latest information and advice from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England, the pupil will be recorded as unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances in the attendance register.

School Events and Trips

We have been notified that all sports events, trips and visits have been cancelled. The PTA Mothers’ Day pop-up stall has also been cancelled.

All after school clubs have also been cancelled until after Easter at the earliest.

These are exceptional circumstances with rapidly changing guidance and advice.

Full School Closure - Wednesday 18th March

Partial Closure

Due to a high number of staff absences, we have taken the decision to ask those pupils who can, to stay at home today. A skeleton staff will be present for those pupils for whom childcare cannot be arranged today and who are not showing symptoms of a virus. School lunches will be available today.
