  • School update - Continued closure

    Wed 18 Mar 2020 LLEE

    Dear Parents/Carers,

Due to ongoing staffing shortages, the school will remain closed on Thursday 19th, Friday 20th and Monday 23rd March, with a view to reopening on Tuesday 24th March.

For the safety of pupils and staff, we have had to make this very difficult decision.  We have taken advice from the Local Authority and the Governing Body who support the school’s decision to remain closed until Tuesday 24th March.

Please continue to check the website for updates as the situation may change based on national and Local Authority advice.

I have requested that teachers continue to update and refresh their class pages so that children can access learning at home.

A decision will be made on Monday 23rd March as to whether or not school will re-open on the 24th March.

Thank you for ongoing support during these very challenging circumstances.

  • School Update - Coronavirus

    Tue 17 Mar 2020 L LEE

    Dear Parents / Carers

I made the decision to close the school today due to an increased number of staff reporting feeling unwell and who deemed their condition necessary to self-isolate.  Several members of staff also have children who have been feeling unwell and have followed the same government guidance. As a result I will be closing the school on Wednesday 18th March in order that a deep clean of the premises can be undertaken. This should result in the school re-opening on Thursday 19th March, subject to staffing levels.

At Glebelands Primary School we take the health and safety of our pupils and staff very seriously.  I therefore feel it would be beneficial to update you with the latest guidance from Public Health England. Their advice states,

    • Anyone with a fever or persistent cough should stay at home for 7 days if they live alone or 14 days if they live with others.  Anyone who lives with someone displaying Coronavirus symptoms should also stay at home for 14 days
    • Everyone should stop non-essential contact with others.  This is particularly important for people over 70, those with underlying health conditions and pregnant women
    • People should work from home when they can
    • People should avoid places like pubs, clubs and theatres
    • People should stop all unnecessary travel
    • By the weekend of the 21st March, those with the most serious health conditions should be largely shielded from social contact for 12 weeks

There is currently no blanket decision to close UK schools, however the above advice may have an impact on staffing levels. The decision to close the school due to availability of staff will never be taken lightly; our priority remains ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of staff, pupils, parents and visitors to the site.  If however the situation becomes unsafe as result of staff absence, school will have to close.  If a decision to close is made, we will notify you via text or email and on our website.

    Attendance

Where a pupil is in self-isolation, in accordance with latest information and advice from the Department of Health and Social Care and Public Health England, the pupil will be recorded as unable to attend due to exceptional circumstances in the attendance register.

    School Events and Trips

We have been notified that all sports events, trips and visits have been cancelled. The PTA Mothers’ Day pop-up stall has also been cancelled.

All after school clubs have also been cancelled until after Easter at the earliest.

These are exceptional circumstances with rapidly changing guidance and advice.

Please continue to check text messages, emails and the school website for updates.

    Yours Sincerely

    L Lee

    Tue 17 Mar 2020 LLEE
Due to a high number of staff absences, we have taken the decision to ask those pupils who can, to stay at home today.  A skeleton staff will be present for those pupils for whom childcare cannot be arranged today and who are not showing symptoms of a virus.  School lunches will be available today.
  • School Update - Coronavirus

    Mon 16 Mar 2020 L LEE

    Dear Parents and Carers,

We understand that currently there is much anxiety around the Coronavirus outbreak and the school leadership team feel it would be useful to provide you with regular updates of where the school stands at the current time.

In line with guidance from NHS and Public Health England, if your child develops a temperature or persistent dry cough please keep them away from school for a period of 5 school days. Please let the school office know if this is the case on the first day of absence.

In order to minimise the spread of germs in the school, it is vitally important that your child brings their own water bottle with water to school. Communal cups will no longer be available for the children to use.

In the event of the school closure, we will take steps to allow children to continue their education at home. With this in mind teachers will be updating their class web pages with information and activities for children to complete. Please visit www.glebelands.leicester.sch.uk , then click the ‘children’ tab and then ‘class pages’.  We will provide children with exercise books or paper to use at home.

We regret that the following events have had to be cancelled or postponed until further notice. This is not a decision that we have taken lightly.

    • Sponsored walk and cake sale (2.4.2020) - POSTPONED
    • Easter Disco (26.3.2020) – POSTPONED
    • Achievement Assemblies (every Thursday) – cancelled until further notice
    • Class 3 Easter festival assembly (2.4.2020) – closed to parents
    • Tag-Rugby Tournament (20.3.2020) - cancelled

All other trips will continue as planned unless we advise otherwise.

The Mother’s Day Pop-up stall WILL take place on Thursday 19th March.

All after-school clubs will continue until further notice but we do ask that parents do not come into school and wait outside for collection. Instead children will be escorted to the front of the school and released from there.

We also ask that parents refrain from coming into school in the morning and afternoons. If you need to speak to your child’s teacher please get in touch via Class Dojo or a telephone call. If you are not yet connected to Dojo, please let us know so that we can get an account to you.

In the event of a school closure, parents should check the school website for the latest updates in the ‘noticeboard’ tab located at the bottom of the homepage.

As part of our ongoing commitment to Safeguarding, if you have any concerns during a school closure please contact the school on the following number 07848 975 185. This is the school’s mobile which will be picked up by one of the Designated Safeguarding Leads or alternatively email Mr Lee at llee@glebelands.leicester.sch.uk

Thank You for your cooperation and patience in these uncertain times. We look forward to resuming normal service as soon as possible.
