Stimulating Young Minds

Class 8

Welcome To Class 8!

Happy New Year!

Miss Talbot (Mon/Tues/Weds) and Mrs Pugh (Thurs/Fri) are both really looking forward to continue working with you this year.

This term we will be reading

'Dindy and the Elephant'

We will be completing lots of written tasks based on what we have read each week. This will include character and setting descriptions, diary entries, newspaper reports and instruction writing.

During the spring term we will be improving our skills and understanding of  multiplication and division (with lots of times tables practise) fractions and decimals.

Our Science topics this term are 'The digestive system' followed by 'Teeth and Healthy Eating'.

We will be learning about what happens to the food we eat and how to keep ourselves healthy.

Our topic work will start off with learning all about India, where it is in the world, how the land is used and how life there compares to life here in Britain. We will then move on to our second topic of the spring term - Extreme Earth. We will be learning about the physical geography of the planet we call home.

Our R.E. topic this term is about Values: What matters most? We will look at how we contribute to our community and how different communities in Leicester celebrate the things that are important to them.

We will focus on E-Safety during our computing time.

This term's P.S.H.E. lessons will encourage the children to really think about being healthy and their ambitions and aspirations.

The Art & D.T. lessons that class 8 will be taking part in will be delivered by the very talented Mrs Sudra. She will relate all of her lessons to the topic work that we are doing. The children will be using a wide range of materials, tools and techniques to complete their given tasks.

Our P.E. lessons will take place every Thursday for the whole term and every Tuesday for the first 5 weeks. Please remember to send your child to school dressed in their P.E. kit every on those days. (Dark bottoms and white t-shirt.) We aim to carry out all of our P.E. lessons outdoors until further notice so your child will need to come to school in suitable P.E. footwear. However, if it is deemed too wet to be outdoors then these lessons will take place in the hall so please send your child to school every Thursday with their plimsols. (Bare feet are no longer allowed until further notice.)

French and Music

We will continue to follow the new scheme of work for French this year.  For Music this term, all children will follow the 'Music Express' scheme of work.

Spellings and Homework

Every Friday, spellings will be assessed and homework will be marked. There is an expectation that every child will practise their spellings at home daily and that homework will be at least attempted and returned on time. New spellings and homework will be sent home every Friday.
